The UUSA Social Justice Coordinating Circle to explore Beloved Community

The UUA Common Read this year is…

The UUA has prepared resources to help congregations explore this idea that was introduced when we passed the Article 2 bylaws revision at the General Assembly in 2024 and introduced the “values flower” that has become familiar to us over the past few years.

The Social Justice Coordinating Circle (SJCC) has committed to explore what “love at the center” means in the context of our social justice work.  We will use the UUA guide for Social Justice Teams to explore this idea.  The SJCC  discussions will focus on three chapters of the Common Read as recommended by the UUA:

Chapter 5 – Beloved Community is Love at the Center

Chapter 18 – From Longing to Fully Living

Chapter 23 – Liberating Love

This will be followed by a discussion using the suggestions and questions provided by the UUA for social justice committees.

Resource Collection

In past years, the UUA has offered “book club” style discussion guides but this year there are other ways of engaging with this new book, including committee-specific discussion guides for the:

    • Social Justice Circle
    • Ministry of Welcome and Membership
    • Worship Collaborative
    • Environmental Action Committee
    • Religious Education
    • Pastoral Care Team

… along with specific discussion guides for each committee/circle/team.

If you and/or a committee/circle/team of the congregation would like to access the instructions and questions, see: Love at the Center Common Read and “register” at the link provided.  If you don’t have a UUA account, you can create one easily to access these resources.
